Arsenal nail ninth straight win
Arsenal made it nine league win in a row but did have to come from behind to beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-1.
It was nearly a flying start for the Gunners as Vivianne Miedema was denied twice by Marie Hourihan in the opening stages, on the second occasion from a rebound after Danielle van de Donk had headed against the crossbar.
However, it was Hope Powell’s side who struck first, as Ini Umotong ran through the home defence to fire past Sari van Veenendaal in the 9th minute.
Miedema did later bring the hosts back on level terms, before setting up Dominique Bloodworth to turn the match in the Gunners’ favour 7 minutes from half time.
Two minutes later and it was 3-1, Beth Mead’s corner headed in by Van de Donk.
Mead completed the scoring herself with 10 minutes to go, cutting in from the left and curling one high into the far corner.
Couple of assists for City’s Keira
Over 1,110 turned out at Dorchester Town FC as Yeovil Town took on Manchester City but the visitors scored twice in each half for a 4-0 win.
Nikita Parris got the first goal of the game on 17 minutes, with a far post finish from a Keira Walsh cross, who was to also set up the second goal.
Caroline Weir had been thwarted by a good stop from Megan Walsh but made no mistake from Keira Walsh’s cross 5 minutes before half time.
Annie Heatherson almost got one back but her header bounced back off the woodwork, City’s Jill Scott was also denied by the woodwork.
It was in the last 7 minutes that City scored twice more, Steph Houghton with a free kick and then Claire Emslie after combining with fellow sub Janine Beckie.
City remain six points behind leaders Arsenal, whom they host next Sunday lunchtime.
Birmingham City go third
Emma Follis scored for the third match running, as her early effort set Birmingham City on the road to a 2-0 result at Liverpool.
With only 3 minutes played, Follis beat the offside trap and sent a half-volley into the back of the net.
The advantage was doubled on 40 minutes, as Connie Scofield celebrated her senior first goal for the Blues with a curled shot past Anka Preuss.
Substitute Yana Daniels went closest to halving the deficit but she was denied on the line by Hannah Hampton following a low cross from Jess Clarke.
Royals battle back with Brooke’s brace
Hannah Cain’s early opener was overturned by a Brooke Chaplen brace as Reading saw off Everton with a 2-1 scoreline, which took them above Chelsea into fourth spot.
Inessa Kaagman picked out Cain to race clear of the back four and finished well past Grace Moloney.
Fara Williams saw her chip come back off the Everton bar but Reading did level in the 19th minute, Chaplen hitting the ball over Kirstie Levell from Remi Allen’s lay off.
Kaagman had a second-half effort ruled out and having scored 13 minutes in, the Royals also netted 13 minutes from time when Gemma Davison drive through the middle and set up Chaplen for her second.
Hammers victorious over Vixens
West Ham United’s 2-0 win over Bristol City has moved them to within a point of the sixth-placed Vixens.
Alisha Lehmann had the Hammers ahead with a deflected effort from the edge of the box in the 13th minute, having earlier beaten Sophie Baggaley only for the ball to be cleared off the line.
Anna Moorhouse had to pull off a vital late save for the Hammers, before Jane Ross intercepted a back pass to make the points safe for the hosts.
