FIVE GO WIN MAD

Out of the 33 teams who made it to Christmas with 100% league records, only 5 managed to maintain such form through to the finish.

When we ran a feature over New Year for the 33 teams in the winter leagues who had managed to not drop a single point, the 8 most senior sides still boasting perfect league records at that time were all from the Regional Leagues but none of those have been able to maintain such form through to the end of the campaign.

There had been as many as 25 County Leagues outfits with spotless form going into 2017 but that number was whittled down to a mere half-dozen by the end on May.

Woburn & Wavendon Lionesses Blues (pictured above) won all 10 games in the Beds & Herts League Division 3, to finish 9 points clear of Evergreen Eagles at the top.

Mill Lane United took maximum points from their 18 East Riding League fixtures to take the title by 14 points from North Ferriby. They made it a double with a 2-0 defeat of the same side in the League Cup final with goals by Neave Amy Spriggs and Shannon Tate, while also reaching the County Cup final where they only lost 2-0 to Premier League Hull City.

This was Mill Lane’s debut season in the women’s league, having played together since U-9s, winning everything possible, including the League and Cup every year by some distance.

Harlow Town made it back to back titles when clinching the Essex League Premier Division crown, with not only the most wins overall but also the biggest winning margin. Proving unstoppable through 22 games, they ended 18 points ahead of second-placed Chelmsford City.

Southampton Women’s Reserves won Hampshire Division 1 by 11 points from Eastleigh, with 18 straight victories.

Newcomers Harrogate Town stormed to the North Riding championship, their 16 wins being a dozen points better than nearest challengers Stokesley.

Llangyfelach were set to be the sole Welsh club to complete a perfect season but despite having secured the West Wales League title and promotion to the Welsh Premier by a large margin over runners-up Camrose, they were held 2-2 in their final match by Dafen Welfare.
