Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of midfielder Emily Simpkins.

The 28-year-old joins the club on a free transfer after leaving Doncaster Rovers Belles this summer, and has signed a one-year contract.

Albion’s manager Hope Powell said, “It is a pleasure to welcome Emily to the club.

“She has played at the very highest level in the Champions League, and her experience will be vital this coming season.

“Emily will add a new dimension to our options in central midfield, and I am very much looking forward to working with her this season.”

Simpkins spent almost three years with Belles and was part of the squad that achieved promotion to the top flight in 2015. She was also the first-ever Belles player to be given a professional contract in November that year.

The midfielder has also played for Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City, winning the FAWPL title with Forest and featuring in the Blues’ squad that reached the Champions League semi-finals.
