Blackburn go top, bottom two both win
Blackburn replaced Middlesbrough as Northern leaders after coming from behind to beat Leicester for a second week running, after last Sunday’s Cup final. Rosie Axten and Leigh Dugmore both had City in front but Natasha Flint replied either side of a Saffron Jordan goal. Four points from as many games will surely now be enough for Rovers to take the title.
Stoke were 3-1 winners over Fylde, with Ashleigh Hayes’ early goal cancelled out by Danielle Young, before Hannah Keryakoplis restored the lead on half time and Beth Roberts put away a third for the Potters to push them up to fourth.
Wolves hopes of staying up live on with a crucial three points from the 2-1 defeat of Derby. Anna Price headed them in front, Andi Bell levelled but a late effort by Jen Anslow secured victory. Wanderers are now just behind West Brom on goals scored with one match left each.
Guiseley also won in their bid to beat the drop and did so in style, hitting a youthful Nottingham Forest line-up for six. Nikki Berko was the star with five goals, Emily Heckler netting the other. The Vixens are currently one point from safety and with three games in hand.
Pompey survive Basildon penalty
C & K Basildon Southern title dream suffered a big blow with a 2-1 loss at Portsmouth. Two first-half Daisy McLachlan goals won it for Pompey, although Angela Addison halved the deficit but the visitors then struck the post with a penalty.
Lewes were 2-0 winners at Gillingham, Aviila Bergin breaking the deadlock 3 minutes after the restart and Kate McIntyre doubling the advantage.
Coventry put four past Cardiff with one each for Helen Dermody, Maz Gauntlett, Stephanie Smith and Jess Lundie.
Chichester went seventh when sinking QPR 3-0, Lauran Ingram, Jess Lewry and Alex Collighan all getting second-half goals.
Ten-player Birmingham net five
In Midlands Division 1, Birmingham & West Midlands’ ten players won 5-2 at Rotherham, Charlie Fisher bagged a brace, Emily Painter, Louise Price and Shannie Jennings added singles. Sporting Khalsa knocked six past Leicester City Ladies.
Brighouse cut gap after top two are beaten
Hull missed a chance to seal the Northern Division 1 title when going down to a first minute goal at Newcastle, scored by Rhiannon Gray. Liverpool Feds’ hopes were finished with a 1-0 reverse at Bolton, Emily Hockenhull scoring for Wanderers 5 minutes from time. Brighouse made up some ground with the only goal at Crewe coming from Jodie Redgrave on 71 minutes. Chorley are safe after a 2-1 win over Chester le Street. Leeds edged Mossley Hill 2-1 to get out of the bottom two at their visitors’ expense.
Dons continue title duel
South East Division 1 leaders AFC Wimbledon won their penultimate fixture by the odd goal in five at Luton. Katie Stanley got the Dons’ first and Caroline Bisson scored twice before the Hatters hit back through Funmi Babalola and Nicola Henman. MK Dons kept the pressure intense with a 6-2 scoreline over Norwich at Stadium MK, as they went second and consigned the Canaries to a bottom-two finish. Heather McDonnell got two goals, Laura Mills, Leah Cudone, Charley Clarke and Kim Farrow one each, Chelsea Garrett and Tash Snelling replying. Stevenage are sixth and Denham up to ninth after their 1-1 draw, Donna McGuigan’s opener equalised by United’s Hattie Kettle.
Pilgrims put seven past leaders
The South West Division 1’s unbeaten pair met and Plymouth pulled off an amazing 7-1 victory over top of the table Southampton WFC. Tash Knapman and Amber Pollock both got doubles, with one apiece for Rebecca Dandridge, Katie Middleton and Zoe Cunningham. The top two meet again next Sunday. Keynsham followed up their 3-0 Somerset Cup win over Lsrkhall by beating the same opposition 4-1 away, Kerry Bartlett with a brace, Ellie Curson and Justine Lorton netting one each. Southampton Saints sent St Nicholas to a 4-1 defeat and Brislington edged Poole in a seven-goal thriller, despite a debut double for Town’s Alexis Bussell.
