In a bid to encourage more women and girls to take up football, AFC Telford United say they will run female age groups from U-8s to U-18s Development Squad, as well as a team at open age.
With the Open-Age women’s team starting in September, recruitment of players over the age of 16 for this squad is now underway.
All home matches will be played on a Sunday afternoon and weekly training sessions will be held on a Wednesday evening on the 3G pitch at the Telford Langley School.
Head of Youth Luke Shelley said: ‘We are delighted to embark on such an exciting new initiative which will create opportunities for women and girls in Telford and the wider Shropshire area.
“Over the past three seasons we have worked hard to create a pathway at the football club for girls’ football which mirrors what we have for the boys, this will hopefully provide the final step for girls that want to play football past 16 years old.”
There will be some open sessions running at TCAT College on Wednesday 7th and 14th June from 6.30pm-9pm. The sessions are open for any girls over the age of 16 to attend.
