Chelsea Off The Mark With Six

Chelsea began their Spring Series campaign by sending Yeovil to a 6-0 defeat.

Looking frustrated in the first half, Drew Spence had been denied by the post but Ji So-Yun broke the deadlock from a free-kick before the break and scored again from open play moments later.

Spence headed in a Crystal Dunn cross on 53 minutes and Ji then played in Erin Cuthbert for the fourth goal.

In the last few minutes, Crystal Dunn netted with an angled effort and Ramona Bachmann scrambled in number six.

Sunderland Shut Out Arsenal

Sunderland followed up their first game goalless draw at Birmingham City by also holding Arsenal 0-0.

Conceding much of the possession, the Black Cats still carved out the best effort in the first half, Dominique Bruinenberg forcing Sari van Veenedaal into a fine stop.

The Gunners gathered some momentum after the interval and forced Preus into a couple of smart stops, including a volley from Jordan Nobbs but were ultimately frustrated by their hosts.

Durham Stay In Top Gear

Durham’s fifth win in seven WSL 2 games kept them in pole position, as they defeated London Bees 3-0, watched by another 500+ crowd.

The Wildcats had the perfect start as with only 5 minutes played, as Beth Hepple’s free-kick was headed home by Nicki Gears.

Although the Bees lost Anne Meiwald stretchered off, Rachel Laws did well to keep out Jo Wilson when sent through on goal.

Early in the second half, Gears hit the post and the rebound was cleared off the line.

Sophie Harris made a number of fine saves for the visitors buy before the hour mark it was 2-0, Hepple getting onto Emily Roberts’ flick to volley home.

Zoe Ness completed the scoring on 69 minutes with a powerful shot over Harris from 20 yards.

Belles lost Sophie Barker for a second caution on 71 and 4 minutes later Ashlee Hincks’ free-kick was tapped home by Billie Brooks to give the Lionessess the lead.

Everton Shoot Down Seagulls

Five goals against Brighton saw Everton bank another three points and climb into fourth place.

The Toffees were 3-0 up in midway through the first half, Simone Magill converting a penalty, Danielle Turner netting a free-kick and Claudia Walker getting the third.

Faye Bryson hit the Albion post before Turner thumped in her second of the match.

Walker saw her 35-yard effort tipped over by Emma Byrne and Gabby George clipped the bar but it was Georgia Brougham who rounded off the scoring with a header from Turner’s corner.
