Italy, who hosted most of the matches in the Torneo Delle Nazioni 2017, topped Group A unbeaten, with Germany second to them in the table.
The USA won Group B despite having been held 1-1 by Slovenia in their opening game. The Americans went on to put four goals past Mexico and netted twice against England.
England had begun with a 2-1 loss to Mexico – who took second place in the group – before edging Slovenia by the only goal of the game, scored by Lauren James.
The USA hit Italy for six in the first-place match. Maya Doms getting a hat-trick, while there was a goal each for Nia Fishel, Kalyssa Van Zanten and Lia Godfrey.
Germany and Mexico could not be separated in their game for third spot and when it came down to a shoot-out, the South Americans prevailed.
England thrashed Belgium 6-0 to finish in fifth position, a brace by Simran Jhamat was added to by Jessica Park, Naomi Hartley, Ebony Salmon and Molly Pike.
Slovenia’s Sara Makovec was on target as France went down 1-0 in the seventh-place play-off.
