Clare Almond fired home the only goal of the game in the 87th minute to ensure the trophy headed to Brunton Park for the second time in three seasons.
Coming into the game off the back of seven straight victories, which saw United secure a fourth place North West League Division 1 North finish, the Lady Cumbrians started brightly with Gillian McGimpsey fizzing the ball just wide of the mark.
United were unable to find a breakthrough with a Imogen Longcake effort safely pouched by Penrith ‘keeper Michelle Jones, the closest to breaking the deadlock.
Penrith started the second half looking to gain a foothold in the game but United ‘keeper Charlotte Cousin was more than equal to their efforts, including an excellent diving save to keep out a 50th minute free kick. United soon regained the advantage but came up against some resolute Penrith defending with a string of efforts blocked.
As the game entered the last 10 minutes, Penrith forced a goal-line clearance but Tracy Gannon’s side responded with Clare Almond and Philippa Harmison seeing efforts saved by Jones in quick succession.
With 3 minutes left on the clock, Almond rifled home the winner, meeting a Ciara Bland cross at the far post.
After the final whistle, United Captain Sharina Robinson was named Player of the Match for her excellent performance in midfield.
Speaking after full time Tracy Gannon said: “I’m so proud of the girls tonight – they worked their socks off for each other. Every player in the squad did their bit when needed and more.”
