Bunny Shaw scored the earliest and quickest hat-trick in WSL history for Manchester City on Saturday.
In the space of just 12 minutes and 37 seconds, she scored her three goals – before the end of the 21st minute of the match.
It got Manchester City well on their way to a 5-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
And with Chelsea dropping points against London City Lionesses, it gives league leaders City an eight-point cushion over Manchester United, who are now in second place.
That lead at the top of the table was the most important thing for Shaw, she said afterwards.
“The most important thing for me was the win, because that puts us closer to the title,” she said, according to the club’s official website.
“So I think getting the win and getting the quickest hat-trick [in WSL history] is a wonderful feeling.”
And head coach Andree Jeglertz praised Shaw for her all-round contributions.
“She’s a great player. She’s scoring goals for us, we always talk about that, but how she works defensively.
“At set plays but also in the press, she’s improved on that a lot during the year, but also in setting up team-mates.
“There’s a lot of things in her today that she should be proud of, and the team should be proud of. I’m really happy for that.”
Andree Jeglertz: Manchester City turned it round
Jeglertz was also pleased with the way his team responded after a disappointing return from the international break last weekend with a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa.
“I think it was (a great performance), especially in the first half, showing what qualities the group have, the attacking play, how we press and how we defend,” he added.
“It was a little bit tricky because the last game wasn’t what we wanted from Aston Villa.
“But then we’ve turned it around in five days and had this performance. It shows something about the team.”
