Chelsea have reportedly seen a second bid rejected for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Jennifer Echegini.
PSG reject Chelsea’s attempts to sign Jennifer Echegini
Sky Sports have reported that PSG are refusing to sell Jennifer Echegini, despite the best efforts from Chelsea.
The transfer window for women’s football in France has already closed, meaning PSG would be unable to sign a replacement.
Chelsea had been expected to make a second attempt for Echegini after their first offer was rejected.
However, that second offer has also been turned down, meaning the Blues will have to wait until the summer to sign Echegini.
It means that Chelsea are likely to be the only WSL side that didn’t recruit a single player during the WSL transfer window, which closes at 11pm tonight. Unless Sonia Bompastor’s side make a late move for another player.
The rejected bid for Echegini will also have an impact on the future of Lexi Potter.
Leicester City made a loan enquiry for Potter, but Chelsea had no intentions of selling unless they brought in a midfielder. That is despite Potter playing just 29 minutes in the WSL this season.

How missing on Echegini impacts Chelsea
It has been a difficult 2026 so far for Chelsea who are now unlikely to win the WSL title, and have seen all of their rivals bring in new players.
Consecutive losses to Arsenal and Manchester City has raised uncertainty over Sonia Bompastor’s future as Chelsea head coach.
Chelsea are 11 points off Manchester City in the title race and will now likely have to put the majority of their attention towards winning the Champions League.
Bompastor will point towards Chelsea’s lack of business after criticising their movement over recent windows.
She lamented Chelsea’s lack of depth after their 5-1 loss to Manchester City, stating she would have liked to have been “in a better place in terms of the last transfer windows”.
Chelsea did add Ellie Carpenter and Alyssa Thompson during the summer, both of which have proven to be two of the best signings in the WSL this season. They also signed Livia Peng, who has been a backup to Hannah Hampton in goal, while Mara Alber was loaned out to Werder Bremen this month.
Are PSG buying Kelly Gago?
PSG were also in the news over the winter transfer window for their pursuit of Everton’s Kelly Gago.
Gago accused Everton of not being “professional” in an interview with L’Equipe, as she sought a move to PSG.
However, PSG reportedly did not offer anything near Everton’s £500,000 valuation of the player.
So Gago looks likely to stay at Everton until the summer.
