Ahead of their Sky Sports Women’s Premier League Cup semi-final against Hibernian, Glasgow City have announced the loan signing of an England youth international.
They have confirmed the signing of defender Lydia Sallaway, who will spend the rest of the season in Scotland, on loan from Women’s Super League side Aston Villa.
The 18-year-old signed her first professional contract with Villa in the summer – which she described at the time as “an absolute dream come true” – having made her debut in December 2023 against Durham and her first appearance in the WSL against Manchester United last year.
She won the Women’s PGA Under-21 Plate with the Aston Villa squad last season.
In quotes circulated to the media, Sallaway said: “I’m buzzing. I’m just really excited to be here and to be playing with this team.
“They have all been really nice and welcoming. I just can’t wait to get on the pitch.”

Leanne Ross: Lydia Sallaway is a talented young prospect

City head coach Leanne Ross added: “We are pleased to bring Lydia to the club for the rest of the season.
“She is a talented young prospect who has come through Aston Villa’s WSL Academy and has already gained senior experience in England.
“Her arrival bolsters the backline ahead of what is going to be a demanding and busy rest of the campaign, and we all look forward to seeing what she brings to the squad during her time with us.”
It is the latest addition to a squad that is still in the hunt for plenty of silverware this season.
Glasgow City had announced the permanent signing of Emily Gray from Utah Royals earlier on Saturday.
They currently sit top of the league, five points clear of second-placed Hearts, as they chase their 17th Scottish Women’s Premier League title.
