Women’s Super League leaders Manchester City extended their advantage at the top of the table to nine points on Sunday.

They beat London City Lionesses in Bromley 2-1, with goals from Kerolin and Bunny Shaw.

And London City Lionesses are currently eighth in the table under new boss Eder Maestre, with only five wins from their 13 league matches so far this season.

That is despite their squad featuring big-name internationals such as Kosovare Asllani, Alanna Kennedy, Grace Geyoro, Nikita Parris and Danielle van de Donk.

But Manchester City head coach Andree Jeglertz had positive words to say about their performance.

“All teams are good and London City are definitely a team to count on for the future and that makes the win even bigger because that means that no matter what we are the ones that are here after the game that can say we’re winning 2-1,” he said after the match according to the club’s official website.

Andree Jeglertz: This win means so much for Manchester City

He was also unsurprisingly pleased to extend the team’s advantage in the league.

“It means so much of course for the league table and the points there, that’s one thing, but also the mentality of the group.

“There was no hesitation from the group that we should get this win and the mentality in the group is that finding ways to explore their penalty box and getting the balls in there and creating scoring chances no matter if it’s a good team we’re playing against.”

Manchester City’s next WSL match is on Sunday, 1st February, when they host defending champions Chelsea – the team to whom they lost in the Subway Women’s League Cup semi-finals last week.

The Blues are still in second place in the table despite their 2-0 loss to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.

However, they go into the match knowing that if they lose they will fall 12 points behind. They may also lose their position in the table, with Arsenal now only one point behind them, and Manchester United two.
