Who is Eder Maestre? The Spanish coach linked with the London City Lionesses vacancy

Eder Maestre London City Lionesses

London City Lionesses are reportedly set to appoint Eder Maestre to replace the void left by Jocelyn Precheur.

The club, who are sixth in their first season in the Women’s Super League, surprisingly parted ways with Precheur on Sunday.

Despite a promising start to life in the WSL following their promotion, the club reportedly did not see Precheur as the coach to lead them through to the next stage of development.

The BBC have now reported that Maestre is set to become the new head coach of London City.

Who is Eder Maestre?

Spanish head coach Eder Maestre could be the next new managerin the WSL with London City Lionesses.

He coached Spanish side Tenerife from June 2024 until leaving the club earlier this month.

It was his first experience as a head coach and he guided Tenerife to a respectable sixth-place finish in Liga F last season. He earned 42 points, which surpassed the records of previous campaigns.

Overall, he coached 46 games for the club, with 18 wins, 15 draws and 13 defeats.

He built a competitive side that was difficult to score goals against.

Before his time at Tenerife, he spent three years as an assistant coach at rival Liga F side Real Sociedad.

Tenerife have made a strong start to the 2025-26 season and sit fifth with 24 points, just two points behind Champions League side Atletico Madrid.

Why did London City part ways with Precheur?

London City’s decision to sack Precheur was a surprising one, with the club in the top half of the WSL standings.

Explaining the decision in a statement, London City posted: “Appointed at a pivotal moment in the club’s development, Jocelyn has played a central role in shaping the recent history of London City Lionesses.

“Under his leadership, the club achieved a historic promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League, becoming the first independent club to reach the top tier of English women’s football [in the professional era] and finishes the first half of the season in sixth position.

“Following careful consideration, the club believes that now is the right time to begin a new cycle and pursue a different strategic direction for the next phase of its development.”

Precheur, who led London City to promotion in his first season at the club, was understood to have a three-year contract with the club.

London City are finished for the winter break and are not in action until January 14th, when they play struggling Liverpool.
