PSG closing in on move for Everton Women star Kelly Gago

The January transfer window is fast approaching and Everton might be about to lose one of their best players, with PSG reportedly closing in on a move for Kelly Gago.

Everton have been poor this season and they may be left helpless as the French club seek out their striker.

PSG closing in on Kelly Gago move

Kelly Gago hasn’t been playing on Merseyside for long, with the striker joining Everton in December last year.

But after just under one season with the Toffees Gago could already be looking for a way out of the WSL.

It had been previously reported that the 26-year-old was hoping for a transfer in January as she looks for more regular game time.

This season Gago has featured in just eight games for Everton. Of those eight games, the striker has started only five games for her club.

Having signed a contract extension at the end of last year, Everton will be desperate to not lose their highest paid player.

PSG and another WSL club are reportedly looking into signing Gago – who could be available for £500,000 in January.

Although it would be hard to see Everton lose their striker after just one year, recruiting other players in different positions may help them in the relegation battle.

Ornella Vignola has been starting in the absence of Gago and after a hat-trick in her first game of the season against Everton, expectations were high for the Spaniard.

Since netting three on her debut, Vignola hasn’t scored again for Everton in the league as their scoring issues continue.

Everton fighting relegation battle

Brian Sorensen’s team are in the midst of a relegation battle this season.

Despite only picking up eight points through 11 games, Everton look safe from the drop for now.

The Toffees are five points ahead of Liverpool who are bottom of the league and just three ahead of West Ham in second bottom.

With a draw against each other over the weekend, Everton’s relegation rivals gained ground on the team to make the race more competitive heading towards the winter break.

Everton play Manchester City in their first game after the break which could see them come closer to the drop.
