Tottenham and England forward Jess Naz has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Jess Naz suffers second ACL injury

Tottenham have confirmed that the 25-year-old suffered an ACL injury in her right knee.

The 25-year-old picked up the injury in Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.

Naz landed awkwardly when chasing a loose ball and instantly clutched her right knee. She was then taken off on a stretcher to applause from the crowd at Brisbane Road.

Tottenham have confirmed that she will undergo an operation after the second ACL injury of her career.

Naz missed the 2019-20 season after suffering an ACL injury in her left knee. She sustained that injury in July 2024 during pre-season training and missed 18 months.

Naz has since established herself as a regular at Tottenham, scoring 18 goals in 140 appearances. She has also won six caps for England, but missed out on the squad for Women’s Euro 2025.

What has Naz said about her latest injury?

Following the update from Tottenham, Naz posted a message on the social media platform Instagram to confirm she has ruptured her ACL.

She said: “I didn’t think I’d be writing this again but I have ruptured my ACL. At the start of the year, I was at rock bottom and through therapy, I came out better.

“Through everything I’ve been through this year, I’ve found the strength to smile, turn up everyday & give my best. Approaching the end of the year, this unfortunately is now another hurdle that I’ll have to overcome.I’ve done it before, I’ll do it again! God’s got me.”

England internationals Ella Toone, Keira Walsh and Ellie Roebuck were among those to post messages of support, in response to Naz’s Instagram post.

ACL injuries in the WSL

Naz has become the eighth player in the WSL to suffer an ACL injury since the start of the campaign.

Tottenham have now suffered two ACL injuries, after Maite Oroz ruptured her ACL back in October.

North London rivals Arsenal have been the worst hit with three ACL injuries.

Katie Reid was ruled out for the rest of the season last month, while Michelle Agyemang, on loan at Brighton, suffered the injury on England duty.

Arsenal are also on the hunt for a goalkeeper in January following the ACL injury to Manuela Zinsberger.

Liverpool pair Marie Hobinger and Sophie Roman Haug both suffered the injury within a week of each other back in October.

Aston Villa’s Jill Baijings is the final player expected to miss the rest of the campaign after suffering the same injury.

Other players in the WSL have suffered different knee injuries. Leicester City’s Jutta Rantala underwent surgery after a meniscus injury last month.
