Chelsea had never failed to score in a WSL game under Sonia Bompastor but Everton ended that run on Sunday with a historic victory.
The Toffees secured a shock against the Blues with Honoka Hayashi scoring the only goal in the game.
Chelsea and Sonia Bompastor’s historic run comes to an end
Before they lost to Everton this weekend, Chelsea were unbeaten for 34 games in the WSL.
The 34 game run marked a new record in the WSL as nobody had even made it to 30 matches without a loss before the Blues’ run.
Sonia Bompastor’s team secured a record sixth consecutive title during that unbeaten streak but this season they now look to be in real trouble.
The reigning champions are now six points behind Manchester City in the league table as we approach the midway point in the season.
Their loss against Everton also marked a milestone for Sonia Bompastor.
Chelsea had never failed to find the back of the net in a league game under their French manager but on her 67th outing, the WSL champions were held at home.

The last time Chelsea failed to score in the league was in October 2022, two years before Sonia Bompastor was hired by the club.
Can Chelsea still win the WSL?
The Blues can still mathematically win the WSL, but they are facing a long uphill battle this season.
There is good news for the team as they still have to play all of the top four again with home fixtures against both Manchester United and Arsenal.
The biggest fixture on the WSL calendar is now Chelsea against Manchester City and the Blues play away at the Etihad in a blockbuster clash at the start of February.
With six points up to City in the table, the Blues will have to be near-perfect for the remainder of the year if they are to continue their dominant run as WSL winners.

The title is there to be had for the Cityzens who are now favourites to win the league but with 12 games still to go there is a long run in for Andree Jeglertz’ team.
