Jess Fishlock has squashed any retirement concerns after agreeing to a new one-year contract extension with the Seattle Reign.

The veteran midfielder, who turns 39 in January, will enter her 14th year with Seattle, as the club’s longest-tenured player.

In that time, she has won the NWSL MVP award in 2021 and has been named in the league’s best 11 in seven separate seasons.

Fishlock retired from international football in October, having played her first major tournament with Wales at Euro 2025.

Jess Fishlock agrees new deal with Seattle Reign

Jess Fishlock insisted she was not ready to call time on her career after signing a new deal with the Seattle Reign.

The Wales legend also insisted that she is determined to bring the NWSL Championship to the city.

“I’m not done yet,” Fishlock told the club’s website. “This club means everything to me – the people, the supporters, the staff and my teammates.

“I love competing for Seattle and giving everything I have to this group, and I truly believe in what we’re building here.

“I’m excited to run it back in 2026 with this world-class club.”

Speaking to ESPN, she added that something “shifted” in her after Euro 2025. She said: “Something had shifted perhaps in what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go, and I think that I’m still such a competitor.

“That will never leave me, unfortunately, which is a gift. Even though its 14 years in the making — golly — I still really want to bring a championship to Seattle.”

Fishlock won the NWSL Shield with Seattle in 2014, 2015, and 2022; however has not won the championship with the side.

This past season, Seattle finished fifth in the regular season and were knocked out at the quarter-final stage. Gotham FC won the NWSL Championship with a 1-0 win over the Washington Spirit.

Fishlock still a vital player for Seattle

Fishlock enjoyed one of the most productive seasons of her career in 2025, with six goals and two assists for the Seattle Reign.

Her six goals was her highest total since 2017 and helped her win the club’s Golden Boot award.

She holds the record for most regular-season goal contributions with 78 (48 goals and 30 assists). Her 48 goals rank second in the club’s history and tied for 10th in NWSL history.

“Jess sees the game at a level that very few players do and that comes from years of experience at the highest level,” said Seattle Reign head coach Laura Harvey.

“Her tactical awareness, ability to adapt in big moments and commitment to elevating the players around her will continue to drive this team forward. She leads by example every single day. Having her experience and presence in the locker room is invaluable as we push into 2026.”
