The Women’s Super League (WSL) has found a new date for Aston Villa vs Liverpool, after the clash was postponed in September due to the tragic death of Matt Beard.
Liverpool were originally due to travel to Villa Park on Matchday 3 of the 2025-26 WSL season.
However, the match was postponed after Beard passed away at the age of 47.
When will Aston Villa vs Liverpool take place?
It has been confirmed that Aston Villa will face Liverpool in the WSL on Thursday, December 11th.
The mid-week game will kick off at 7pm at Villa Park and will take place days before both sides face huge games at the weekend.
Liverpool travel to West Ham three days later, with both sides making among the worst starts to a WSL season after each failing to win a single point so far.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, face a tough trip to Manchester City, who have won their last six games on the bounce.
That will then be the last WSL action until 2026, when the league resumes on January 11th.
Postponement of WSL clash came after Matt Beard’s death
Liverpool’s trip to Aston Villa in September was postponed after the death of Matt Beard.
Beard’s shocking death was revealed on the evening of Saturday, September 20th, just one day before the Reds were due to play at Villa Park.
The legendary manager had been in charge at Liverpool for two spells, leading them to two WSL titles in his first stint, and then getting them promoted from the second tier in his second.
Beard left Liverpool in February this year, and had a short spell in charge of Burnley before his passing.
West Ham head coach Rehanne Skinner has since come out insisting that more WSL matches should have been called off that weekend.
She said: “For me, I don’t know why any of the games were on at the weekend because the amount of people, players, coaching staff across the game that have obviously known Matt. I think the expectation on what people had to do at the weekend was not assessed properly at all.”
It has been a difficult year for Liverpool Football Club as a whole after Diogo Jota and his brother Andre died in a car crash back in July.
Jonathan Humble, a kitman at Liverpool and formerly Manchester United, also died in October.
Liverpool seek first points of the season this weekend
Liverpool will look to win their first points of the season when they host Brighton on Sunday.
Should the Reds lose, they will become one of just six sides in WSL history who failed to take a single point from their opening seven games.
West Ham joined that list last weekend following their narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa will look to return to winning ways on Saturday against Manchester United.
