See here for the latest Women’s World Rankings, with the Lionesses remaining fourth following the October international break.
Women’s World Rankings
- Spain
- USA
- Sweden
- England
- Germany
Germany
The Nations League was easy for Germany in the group stage and they didn’t lose a game before advancing to the quarter-finals.
In the knockouts Germany faced France and they continued their momentum with a crucial win. Germany got revenge for their Euro 2025 defeat to France, as they edged past their rivals to advance to the Nations League final.
Germany will now go head to head against the reigning champions, Spain, as they look to win their first title.
Their first appearance in the Nations League final wasn’t enough to see Germany leapfrog England into fourth in the world rankings.
Losing to Spain and Sweden in this summer’s Euros also didn’t help Germany’s case. Should the team upset Spain in the Nations League final next month, it would be a surprise to not see them rise up the rankings.
England
Following success at Euro 2025 in the summer, England rose up to fourth in the world rankings.
Many were surprised that the Lionesses didn’t rise higher in the table, but they have struggled in other competitions this year.

Sarina Wiegman’s team were grouped with Spain in the Nations League and the world champions got their revenge on England who didn’t advance past the group stage.
The Lionesses returned to action with two international friendlies this month. Wiegman and company didn’t make a strong case to drift up the rankings with a shock defeat to Brazil in their first game.
England got back on track with a convincing win against Australia despite having a myriad of injury concerns.
Euro 2025 hero Michelle Agyemang joined the likes of Leah Williamson, Katie Reid and Grace Clinton in the treatment room this week.
Agyemang has confirmed since the game that she has ruptured her ACL and will be out for the season.
Sweden
Although they haven’t won any tournaments in the past four years, Sweden have been quietly going about their business.
The team has consistently finished well in major competitions and they continue to go toe to toe with the best in the world.
With that being said, Sweden were put to the sword by Spain in the Nations League in October.
Two of the world’s top five nations faced off in the semi-finals of the competition and it was Spain who advanced after a dominant 5-0 win across the two legs.

With no titles to speak of for a long time, Sweden are surely the most vulnerable nation in the top five and England have been knocking on the door for some time now.
There is still a chance that Sweden can take home some silverware this year, as they take on France in the Nations League third place playoff in December.
USA
The only team in the top five women’s world rankings outside of Europe is of course USA.
Playing outside of Europe also means that USA haven’t had any major competitions in 2025, with their only tournament this year being the SheBelieves Cup which took place in February.
Despite their lack of competitive action, USA remain as dominant as ever.
The team has lost just two of their last 1o international games. A shock loss to Portugal this month was quickly followed up by a bounce back win against the same opponents before a resounding 6-0 victory over New Zealand.
Emma Hayes has her team in a prime position to challenge at the 2027 World Cup and they are currently joint-favourites with Spain to win in Brazil.
Their lack of competitive action could cost USWNT, but with arguably the best manager in the world at their helm they should still be a serious contender for any competition they turn up in.
Spain
While USA have struggled for competitive action this year, Spain have almost exclusively played in major tournaments.
In the past two years Spain have competed in four major finals – winning two of the three that have been played so far.
Spain have now reached FOUR major women’s finals in just two and a half years 😳🏆

Sonia Bermúdez’ team has continued their dominance in 2025 and the only blemish on their illustrious record was a second consecutive loss to England in the European Championship final.
The reigning world champions have still won a title this year despite their loss at Euro 2025. Spain were crowned inaugural champions of the Nations League in the February final against France.
Spain are short favourites to defend their title in the Nations League final next month.
It is hard to see anyone toppling Spain atop the world rankings before the 2027 World Cup, and even then they could hold on to top spot as they are expected to go far in their bid to win back to back titles.
