A crowdfunder has been set up after the shock death of Liverpool and former Manchester United kitman Jonathan Humble.

Liverpool confirmed on Wednesday night that Humble, who had three children with his wife Claire, had died at the age of 44 after a sudden illness.

A statement on Liverpool’s website confirmed that Humble was taken ill at home on Sunday evening and passed away at Leighton Hospital in Crewe a few days later.

Clubs across England have sent messages of support following the tragic news.

Humble had only taken on the women’s first team kit manager role at Liverpool in August after leaving Manchester United.

He had worked as part of Manchester United’s kit staff for the previous six years.

Humble’s death comes after the shock passing of former Liverpool women’s manager Matt Beard last month. Liverpool were also rocked by the death of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre, following a car crash back in July.

Charlotte Healy sets up fundraiser after death of Jonathan Humble

Former Manchester United assistant Charlotte Healy has set up the crowdfunding page following the death of Liverpool kitman Jonathan Humble.

Like Humble, Healy left the Red Devils this past summer after Marc Skinner’s former assistant decided to become manager of Bristol City.

The crowdfunding page has been set up with the aim of raising £7,500 to help his family with costs and funeral plans.

At the time of writing, £6,680 has already been raised for Humble’s family.

On the JustGiving page, she wrote: “In memory of our beloved Kitman Jon Humble.

“Jon was the kindest of humans who would do absolutely anything for anybody. The biggest of hearts and the kindest of people, we are all devastated by his passing.

“This page has been set up (with permission from family) as a small way of us all being able to help and support Jon’s wife Claire and their children with the immediate costs and funeral plans after Jon’s sudden passing.”

Liverpool pay tribute to Humble

Liverpool and Manchester United have both posted tributes for Humble since the announcement of his passing.

Andy O’Boyle, Liverpool Women’s managing director, said: “This is devastating news and the first thing to say is that all our love and thoughts are with Jon’s wife Claire and his three children at this time.

“I knew Jon from his time at Manchester United and always regarded him as an outstanding professional and a person of the highest character. Although we were only lucky enough to have him with us for a couple of months, his pride in his work and his drive to set the highest standards shone through from day one.

“His family spoke about how much he told them he was enjoying it here, which means a great deal to all of us.

“When visiting him this week in the hospital, we met people from several different clubs – a sign of the high esteem in which he was held wherever he went. We will all miss him terribly.”

Liverpool head coach Gareth Taylor added: “His meticulous standards never dropped and he was always on hand to help a player or staff member who popped into his room.

“It is difficult to believe we have lost him so young and of course Claire and his children are uppermost in our thoughts today.”

Manchester United’s tribute to Humble

Manchester United also posted a message on their website, writing: “He was much loved by everyone in the women’s team, and he will be missed by his many friends and colleagues across the Barclays WSL.

“Jon also worked closely with our boy’s Academy and many others across Carrington, who will grieve his passing.

“Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this deeply sad time, and we have reached out to his family to offer our support.”

A host of other English clubs have also paid messages of tribute.

Arsenal wrote: “The thoughts of everyone at Arsenal are with Jonathan’s family and friends, and Liverpool, at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jonathan.”

Manchester City also tweeted: “Everyone at Manchester City sends their love and thoughts to Liverpool, Jonathan’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
