Aberystwyth Town ready to paint Wales pink with fundraiser against Wrexham

An eye-catching kit is the catalyst for Aberystwyth Town hosting a Pink Day of fundraising this weekend.

When the Seasiders face Wrexham in the Adran Premier on Sunday, they’ll be supporting Cancer Research UK – a cause close to the team’s hearts after the passing of Kevin ‘Bones’ Jenkins.

‘Bones’, who passed away in 2023, was a former coach of the team – and father of captain Amy Jenkins.

She tells SheKicks.net: “Raising money for such an important cause means a great deal to our team and to our hearts. Cancer has touched so many lives it’s something that affects us all in one way or another. For us at Aberystwyth Town Women, supporting this cause is a powerful reminder that life is about so much more than football.

“While this event’s efforts focus on breast cancer awareness, it also highlights cancer research as a whole, helping to make a difference for everyone impacted by the disease.

“As a club, we’re deeply aware of the toll cancer takes on individuals, families, and communities. Many people are fortunate to share their stories of survival, while others sadly are not. We’re truly grateful for every ounce of support, big or small, as together we continue to honour, remember, and make a difference.”

The day also coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month – the most common type of cancer in the UK.

Aberystwyth Town: their season so far

Aberystwyth Town’s pink kit is brand-new this year. They usually play in green and black stripes, and their previous away kit was yellow.

Aberystwyth Town are currently sixth in the table, with three wins and three losses this season. Their most recent result was a 3-2 away win against last season’s runners-up Briton Ferry Llansawel, coming back from 2-0 down thanks to a hat-trick from Carys Bufton.

Wrexham – under new manager Jenny Sugarman – sit second, with a marginally worse goal difference than league leaders Cardiff City.

The first team’s match kicks off at 2pm, and will be followed by the development team taking on Aberystwyth University in the Ceredigion Ladies League.
