Liverpool are still without a point in this season’s Women’s Super League, with four defeats out of four.
The most recent came on Sunday after Elena Linari scored a penalty to take all three points for London City Lionesses in Bromley.
That was despite some controversy surrounding the spot kick, with some suggesting that Nikita Parris fouled goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe rather than the other way round.
And defender Jenna Clark admitted that the squad were disappointed – but reminded observers that they were a team still getting used to a new manager after Gareth Taylor took over the reins in August.
“It was really disappointing,” Clark said to the club’s official website. “I think the feeling just now is complete disappointment with the game and a little bit of frustration.
“I think we did control spells of the game, but I think in the second half we didn’t do enough. I think if we knew the answer we’d be doing it.
“We’re a new team and a new manager and we’re still trying to find our feet. We’re just not doing enough to win the games at the moment.
“We’ll review the game when we come back into training. We’ll look at what we did well and look at what we need to do better.”
On the plus side, though, she said the team spirit and unity were both still second to none.
“That’s something we’ve always had. I think that’s something we’ve still got and it’s really strong. It’s a rough time at the moment, but we’ve got that togetherness.”
A disappointing season so far for Liverpool
Liverpool are second from bottom of the WSL table, with a goal difference of -10; only West Ham are below them.
The Reds began the season with a 4-1 defeat at Anfield at the hands of fierce rivals Everton.
They followed that with an away loss to ten-player Leicester City, 1-0 after the sending-off of Shannon O’Brien.
And they also lost at home to Manchester United, 2-0, with Marc Skinner’s team winning thanks to goals from Hinata Miyazawa and Ella Toone.
Their away match against Aston Villa was postponed after the sudden passing of former manager Matt Beard.
Their next match is on Sunday, 12th October, when they host second-placed Manchester City.
