Manchester City vs Arsenal preview
Last season’s top four all face off against each other this weekend in what should be an action-packed weekend in the WSL.
Manchester City host Arsenal in Saturday’s only game and there is a lot on the line for both teams.
City have won all three of their games since just losing to Chelsea in their curtain raiser but the opposition wasn’t anywhere near Arsenal’s level.
Last week City thrashed London City Lionesses as Khadija Shaw ended her mini goal drought with a brace from the spot.
34 – Since her Arsenal debut in October 2023, only Khadija Shaw (38) has been directly involved in more @BarclaysWSL goals than Alessia Russo (34 – 26 goals, 8 assists), who was involved in three goals in a league game for the Gunners for the first time on Friday evening (2G,… pic.twitter.com/MrM3BSbdd3

Vivianne Miedema has also found form of late with three goals in her last three games for City.
Arsenal are one of just three teams in the league who are still unbeaten after four games but two draws have left Renee Slegers frustrated with her team.
Dropping points to United last weekend was unfortunate for the Gunners but the fact that they failed to score was even more disappointing considering the depth in their attack.
The North London side will be keen to bounce back from the draw – which felt like a loss under the circumstances – and all would be forgiven if Arsenal can get back on track against another team hopeful for a top two finish.
Manchester City vs Arsenal Team news
Andree Jeglertz confirmed in the week that Lauren Hemp will be out for at least the next few games and so won’t be available on Saturday.
Hemp was replaced by summer signing Grace Clinton last weekend and she should deputise once again on Saturday.
City youngster Jade Rose has impressed of late and is also pushing for a start in defence.
Arsenal don’t have any new injury concerns but Renee Slegers could make changes after such a disappointing result against United last week.
Chloe Kelly could be given a chance this weekend with Mead likely to be sacrificed.
Ian Wright called for Kyra Cooney-Cross and Victoria Pelova to both get more minutes last week, and both will be pushing for a spot in the lineup going forward if they get given a chance off the bench.
Predicted lineups
Manchester City: Yamashita; Prior, Rose, Greenwood, Casparij; Hasegawa, Brown, Miedema; Fujino, Shaw, Clinton
Arsenal: van Domselaar; Fox, Reid, Catley, McCabe; Little, Maanum; Caldentey, Smith, Kelly; Russo
Manchester City vs Arsenal prediction
This fixture is certainly a tough one to call but there should be goals in the game no matter what happens.
There was 11 goals in the two head to head meetings last season, with Arsenal winning one and the other ending in a 2-2 draw.
Despite City having the better form this season we are backing Arsenal to come out on top in this clash of the titans as we think they will make a mends for a disappointing performance last week.
Prediction: Manchester City 1-3 Arsenal
