Aberystwyth Town had an impressive unbeaten start to the Adran Premier season – but that ended on Sunday, with a 2-0 defeat on the road at Swansea City.

However, captain Amy Jenkins isn’t too despondent.

The Seasiders had begun the campaign with wins over Pontypridd United and the New Saints, and had not conceded a goal in either encounter.

“Playing at such a high level always comes with ups and downs,” she told SheKicks.net. “We’re a team that has fantastic grit and resilience, which we’ve showed time and time again.

“Sundays result’s wasn’t what we were looking for. However, we need to remember how far we’ve come. If you’d told me we would have six points out of a possible nine, three games in at the start of the season, I would have bitten your hand off.

“I’m always so proud of the girls every time they put on the shirt. We always wear it with pride.”

Yzzy Taylor: “We knew Aberystwyth Town would be robust”

Goals from Eilish Mitchell and Aimee Deacon gave the Swans all three points, and their manager Yzzy Taylor told the club’s official website that she was pleased to see her team come out on top in a tough contest as they look to mount a title challenge.

“I am over the moon, we are really proud of the clean sheet because I think when you get that you are already halfway there,” she said.

“We had to dig in a bit today and it was a bit of a different test than we were expecting but overall we are really pleased with the result.

“We knew they would be robust in what they were doing, they were going to be tough to break down and they were coming into the game similar to us in having not conceded this season.

“We knew we would have to be patient in what we were doing and have to tweak a few things in terms of our build-up play especially going into the second half but – with the resilience that we showed – it made the second half really comfortable.”
