Full back Codie Thomas has signed a new two-year contract extension with Manchester City that will keep her at the club until 2027.

She will continue to wear the number 44 shirt.

The 18-year-old broke into the first-team squad during the 2024-25 campaign, making her debut in the 3-2 UEFA Women’s Champions League win over SKN St. Pölten.

However, her progress was halted when she sustained a hamstring injury during the first-team squad’s warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi in January 2025.

She said at the time that it was her first-ever injury, even through her academy days, explaining: “It has been difficult and you have your up and down days, but I think it’s made me a better person in the way I think – because I think ‘I’m going to get back and try even harder’. Like I’m going to give my all, definitely.”

And she has now secured a deal to keep her at her childhood club for another two years.

‘A dream come true’

“It’s amazing [to sign a contract extension],” Thomas said in an interview with the club website. “With City being such a big club it’s a place that I want to be, it’s a place where I want to learn and develop, on the pitch and off the pitch.

“Since I’ve been a little girl I’ve watched City, been at City and it’s just a dream come true.

“It’s been amazing, like the environment is one that you can progress in, in every part of life, and it’s always challenging every single day.

“It was a very big step [into senior football]. There was a lot of physical demand and the intensity was so much higher.

“I feel like training with them [senior squad] last season and playing a couple of games, I feel like I’ve stepped more into that role now and feel a lot more confident.

“Last year was a whirlwind. Obviously, I had my first ever injury, but now I’m back and like a little kid running around the pitch. I’m just so happy to be out there.”

Sjogran: Codie is City through and through

Manchester City Women’s director of football Therese Sjogran added: “Having first joined as our youth pathway back in 2016, having Codie – and other academy graduates like her – progress into the first team shows the foundations are there.

“Codie is Manchester City through and through, and we’re thrilled she’s chosen to continue her footballing journey with us as we continue to compete for all honours.”

It follows the contract extension signed by another lifelong City fan, Lily Murphy – Thomas’s best friend. The two signed their first professional contracts together last year.
