ITV have revealed their broadcasting team for Women’s Euro 2025, which features a returning Eni Aluko but there is no spot for Ian Wright on the pundits line-up.

Aluko returns after comments in April where she said Wright should be aware there were “only a finite amount of opportunities” for female pundits working in women’s football. Aluko would later apologise for her comments.

Wright’s absence comes as a surprise after he was used throughout England’s qualifying campaign. He was also part of ITV’s coverage during the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia.

However, the Guardian have reported that sources at the channel insist his absence is not because of his clash with Aluko.

Joining Aluko on ITV’s punditry team includes former Lioness Karen Carney, ex-Chelsea and current USA manager Emma Hayes, and Real Madrid and Scotland star Caroline Weir.

There are several other former internationals too including Span’s Vicky Losada, France’s Laura Georges and ex-Welsh international Jayne Ludlow.

ITV’s coverage will be led by Laura Woods and Seema Jaswal. Seb Hutchinson, Sam Matterface and Pien Meulensteen are on commentary duty and will be joined by co-commentators Lucy Ward, Siobhan Chamberlain, Emma Byrne, and Nia Jones.

The BBC revealed their broadcasting team for the Women’s Euros last week, featuring Euro 2022 winners Jill Scott, Ellie Roebuck and Ellen White.

What happened with Eni Aluko and Ian Wright?

Former England striker Eni Aluko attracted criticism for her comments about Ian Wright on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour back in April.

Aluko described Wright as a “brilliant broadcaster,” but said he “should be aware” of the space he occupies in the coverage of women’s football.

She said: “I think we need to be conscious and we need to make sure that women are not being blocked from having a pathway into broadcasting in the women’s game. There’s a finite amount of opportunities and I think that men need to be aware of that.”

Aluko who has worked alongside Wright, apologised later that same week, saying: “I was trying to make a broader point about the limited opportunities for women in football – whether that’s in coaching, broadcasting or commercial spaces – and the importance of creating more space for women to thrive on and off the pitch.

“But it was wrong for Ian’s name to be raised in that conversation, and for that I sincerely apologise. I’ve known and worked with Ian for many years and have nothing but love and respect for him.”

Wright, who has long been an advocate for women’s football, responded that he “cannot accept” Eluko’s apology and was “disappointed” by her comments.

Aluko was not present for ITV’s coverage of England’s next fixture, a 5-0 win over Portugal in May. However, she will return to ITV’s coverage for Euro 2025.
