Bristol City level on points with Barclays Women’s Championship leaders

Bristol City beat Durham 5-0 to go level on points with Barclays Women’s Championship leaders Birmingham City who were held at home by Charlton Athletic.

Emily Syme bagged a brace as Bristol City put five past Durham to leapfrog them in the table. Syme opened the scoring in first-half added time for City and doubled the hosts’ lead eight minutes after the restart.

Lexi Lloyd-Smith effectively made the points safe with a third goal midway through the second half, Tianna Teisar and Amalie Thestrup also getting on the scoresheet.

Birmingham City were morning leaders but held to a goalless home draw by Charlton Athletic.

London City Lionesses struck three times in a seven-minute spell in the last quarter of the match with Southampton.

Kosovare Asllani finished at the back post from a cross by Izzy Goodwin, who then found the net herself but Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah made it 3-0.

Emma Thompson netted a stoppage-time consolation for the Saints.

Sunderland fell behind a Sophie Quirk goal for strugglers Portsmouth but Eleanor Dale had them back on level terms within five minutes.

Katy Watson completed the turnaround for the Black Cats during first-half stoppage time, only for Lily Dent to make it 2-2 straight after the interval, eventually securing just a second point for Pompey.

Brighton Women peg back Spurs for 1-1 draw
