Glasgow City boss Scott Booth comments on yesterday’s Champions League draw where his Scottish Premier leaders were paired with Chelsea, who currently sit top of FA WSL 1.
Billed already as the tie of the round, Glasgow City drew Chelsea at yesterday’s UEFA Women’s Champions League last 32 draw in Nyon.
This year’s FA Cup holders are a formidable force and are without doubt the strongest side City could have drawn at this stage of the competition. Chelsea boast some of the biggest names in the game, including the FA Women’s Player of the Year, South Korean star Ji So-yun as well as four of England’s world cup stars who of picked up the bronze medal in Canada only a couple of months ago. The all-British draw is definitely promising a mouth-watering tie for the fans all over the UK.
Commenting on the draw, City boss Scott Booth {pictured) said, “Champions League draws never fail to disappoint. Given my history with FC Twente, I thought fate might just mean we would meet them, but Chelsea is certainly an equally exciting prospect. We know it is probably the toughest draw we could have faced but it is one the whole club is looking forward to.”
Tickets went on sale yesterday for City’s home leg of the Champions League match priced at £10 adults and £5 kids and available from www.glasgowcityfc.co.uk. The game being played on Wednesday 14th October at City’s home ground of the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie. Purchasing a Champions League ticket also entitles the holder into City’s four remaining domestic fixtures.
In the meantime, City remain focused on SWPL duty as they travel north to take on Aberdeen at Sunnybank Juniors this Sunday [1pm KO]. After taking on the Dons only two weeks ago in the Scottish Cup, Booth knows his side will be tested. He said, “Facing Aberdeen again so soon after our cup win brings with it a few extra challenges. I am sure they will be looking for a wee bit of revenge but we are focused on our game and know the importance of remaining consistent in the league completion.”
