Women’s Regional Leagues: Goalfests, crowds, super subs and red cards

Women’s Regional League drama included a 7-6 scoreline, 450-strong crowd, several super subs and a few red cards.

EASTERN – Bowers leapfrog Borough 

Premier – Bowers & Pitsea’s Millie Isherwood bagged a brace as they beat Haringey Borough to leapfrog them into third spot, Kings Lynn Town crushed Harlow Town 7-1.

1 North – Biggleswade United made it five straight wins with an 8-1 beating of Yaxley Phoenix, AFC Dunstable put five past Haverhill Rovers, Newmarket Town won 4-0 in midweek at Wootton Blue Cross.

EAST MIDLANDS – Millers off the mark against Magpies 

Premier – Rotherham United got off the mark with a fine 3-3 draw at Notts County, as the hosts dropped their first points after Nnola Oyeka’s last minute equaliser. Mansfield Town were 3-0 winners over Anstey Nomads.

1 Central – Three  high-scoring encounters saw Asfordby Amateurs defeat Notts County Development 4-2, Ilkeston Town get the better of Mansfield Hosiery Mills 5-3 with an Ashleigh Evans double, Sherwood win 4-3 at West Bridgford aided by Bella Reed’s brace.

1 North – Grimsby Town’s Bethany Wharton got a couple in a 3-1 win at Gainsborough Trinity, Sleaford Town’s Jade Baker three in defeating Lincoln United Development 5-0, Natalie Aird netted twice as Grimsby Borough beat SJR Worksop 2-1.

1 South – Northampton Town Devs’ Kaitlyn Crouch contributed twice to a 4-2 result over Kettering Town, it ended 3-1 for Peterborough United Devs against Thrapston Town with two for Andreia Oliveira. Loughborough Foxes Vixens’ Renae Huggan-Broughton scored the only goal against Leicester City LFC, Dunton & Broughton United beat Coalville Town 8-1.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – 450 see Dulwich defeat Fulham

Premier – Millwall Lionesses moved five points clear after a 3-1 win at Aylesford, a crowd of 450 saw Rebecca May’s double set up a 4-2 defeat for Dulwich Hamlet of third-placed Fulham. Dartford saw off AFC Acorns 2-0, Enfield Town gained ground on Saltdean United whom they beat 5-2 away, Sutton United overame New London Lionesses 4-1.

1 North – Brentford sub Orlas McComb made the breakthrough to beat Hackney, Watford Development took the points 3-2 at Dulwich Hamlet Reserves, Denham United downed Leatherhead 4-1.

1 South – Ashford United thrashed Maidstone United 17-0, Bexhill United won at Bromley who had been second. Hastings United replaced them by winning 7-2 at Montpelier Villa with three for Sian Heather, Eastbourne United’s 9-1 defeat of Cray Valley included a Bethany Chambers treble and lifted them to third. Steyning Town edged Herne Bay 3-1, Welling United were 4-1 winners over Newhaven whose Faye Hannaford was red-carded.

NORTH EAST – Wakefield win 7-6 

Premier – Neve Renwick completed her hat-trick in stoppage-time to give Wakefield an amazing 7-6 scoreline against Sunderland West End, who had Katherine O’Leary sent-off and Alexandra Ross score three in vain. Redcar Town won 5-1 at Blyth Town, where Mary Corbyn notched a treble.

1 North – Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves lead on goal-difference following a 3-1 win at Gateshead, both Hartlepool teams lead won 5-0 away, United at Guisborough Town, Pools Youth at West Allotment Celtic. Bishop Auckland banked a first win 2-0 over Thornaby, Spennymoor Town versus Chester le Street United finished 1-1.

1 South – Millmoor abruptly ended York Railway Institute’s perfect start as Abby Watkinson got four in a 6-1 – result, Ossett United went one better against Bradford Park Avenue. Handsworth were 4-2 winners at Harworth Colliery, Altofts got both goals of the game at Sheffield United Foundation and Barnsley FC beat Ripon City 4-0.

NORTH WEST – Stanley stop Seasiders 

Premier – There were no positional changes as all the top five were victorious; Crewe Alexandra 0-5 Cheadle Town Stingers, Darwen 1-5 FC United of Manchester, Salford City Lionesses 4-2 Tranmere Rovers, Curzon Ashton 5-2 Blackburn CSC, West Didsbury & Chorlton 1-2 Fleetwood Town Wrens.

1 North – Blackpool did not take an opportunity to go top, going down 2-0 at Accrington Stanley. Penrith posted an 8-2 result at Sir Tom Finney, Preston North End took the points 3-1 at Workington Reds, Bolton Wanderers and Carlisle United drew 1-1.

1 South – Bury AFC edged Northwich Vixens 2-1, Poulton Vics got all four goals at BRNESC. Runcorn Linnets hit Hindley 6-2, Wythenshawe Amateurs won 3-2 over Chester, one goal was enough for Alder to beat Altrincham.

SOUTHERN – Top two draw 0-0

Premier – Ascot United and Bournemouth Sports were goalless in a clash of the top two, Abingdon Town beat Wycombe 4-2, Chloe Ball and Tori St Clair with two each and Wanderers’ Shauna Smith dismissed. There were 2-0 wins for Abingdon United over Oxford City and Winchester City Flyers in getting off the mark against Eastleigh.

1 North – Milton United’s Mollie Dyer scored four in a 7-1 sinking of Carterton, Caversham United edged Kidlington with a Freya Jenkins goal, Long Crendon held 2-2 by Woodley United whose Rebecca Gooch netted her second in added-time, while Penn & Tylers Green beat Eversley & California 3-0.

1 South – Chichester City won the top of the table clash at Badshot Lea 3-1, Woking and Rushmoor drew 2-2, AFC Stoneham beat Abbey Rangers 4-1.

SOUTH WEST – Leaders Sherborne share points

Premier – Sherborne Town were held 2-2 at home by Bristol Rovers, Forest Green Rovers gained ground when winning 2-0 at Warminster Town. Bishops Lydeard drew 3-3 with Torquay United, Liskeard Athletic beat Royal Wootton Bassett Town 6-3 with three for Sam Metters and three for the visitors’ Libby Davies.

1 East – Pucklechurch Sports beat Frome Town 4-2 with all their goals by Adele Hooper, Weston Super Mare banked a first point 1-1 with Middlezoy.

1 North – Frampton Rangers suffered be a first defeat 2-0 at home to Oldland Abbotonians, SGS Olveston United also beaten by visitors St Vallier as Amy Jefferies scored twice for a 4-2 win.

1 West – Budleigh Salterton sit top after Kirsty Brown’s brace in a 2-1 win at Activate, Marine Academy Plymouth netted nine at Bideford with Megan Boulton and Sam Drewery scoring three apiece.

WEST MIDLANDS – Subs score decisive goals

Premier – Sutton Coldfield Town moved clear at the top with sub Carly Aldred scoring for a 2-1 success at Shrewsbury Town, Solihull Sporting edging second-placed Worcester 3-2 as Lauren Smith scored off the bench while City’s Holly Rogers got sent off. Elsewhere, Lye Town won 3-1 at Crusaders.

1 North – Shifnal Town are a point off the top following a 4-0 victory at City of Stoke, Darlaston Town won by the same scoreline at Wyrley.

1 South – Leamington Lions won 3-1 over Westfields with Kiran Sangha twice on target, Bewdley Town won 3-1 at Sedgley & Gornal United where Kirsty Roberts got two of their three goals in the last 25 minutes.

Division 1 Cup 1st Round – AFC Telford United versus Kingfisher was abandoned after 73 minutes with the home team 3-0 up. Port Vale sub Tara Harrison scored in a 3-2 win at Coventry City, Coventry Sphinx put nine past Lichfield City Reserves, Walsall Ladies went through 3-2 at Rugby Town. Walsall Wood’s 7-1 win at Tamworth included a Leanne Johnson hat-trick and red card for the visitors’ Charlotte Turner, Knowle knocked out Droitwich Spa 3-1 and Long Itchington eliminated Rugby Borough 4-1.
