Women’s Regional League 2021/22 campaign rises in the East

The Eastern League got the Women’s Regional campaign underway on 15 August, with competitive football returning and in front of fans too.

EASTERNLocke lands four out of five blows for Bowers

Premier – Wroxham’s Grace Birchall hit a hat-trick as Luton Town were defeated 4-2, Wymondham Town got all three goals of the game at Bedford and Bowers & Pitsea blew away hosts St Ives Town 5-0, four of those from Whitney Locke. Angel Gwynne got two goals as Haringey Borough came away from Kings Lynn Town 3-2 victors, Colney Heath levelled late on in a 1-1 tie with AFC Dunstable, Sasha Manders scoring with a minute left to cancel out Emily Wilson’s opener.

1 North – Whittlesey Athletic fielded nine 16-18 year-olds in their first Tier Six fixture, Annie Posnett scoring twice as Needham Market were held 3-3, Lois Balfour with a brace for the visitors. Biggleswade United made a winning debut 3-1 over visitors Newmarket Town.

1 South – Cheshunt’s Frances Gamble scored three minutes into their opening regional league game but hosts Hutton hit back to draw 1-1. Herts Vipers won their first ever game at this level, 2-0 at Wodson Park, while Leigh Ramblers’ Rebecca Dalgarno contributed twice as East Bergholt United were beaten 5-3.

The London & South East League kicks off next Sunday, 22 August, the East Midlands has a midweek start on 1 September, while fixtures are also out for North East, South West and West Midlands.
