Wolves returned to second place in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division after winning 2-0 at Boldmere St Michaels.

Goals by Beth Roberts early in either half sealed the win, as Wolves moved within three points of leaders Nottingham Forest with a game in hand.

Anna Price headed on Anna Morphet’s fourth-minute corner before Roberts turned the ball home from close range.

Beth Merrick was twice denied by Jodie Whiteman, while Tammi George also had her effort saved but Wolves doubled their lead with almost a carbon copy of the first goal.

Three minutes after the interval, Morphet’s corner was attacked twice by Price before Roberts scrambled the ball over the line.

The result left Boldmere at least three points from safety with only two games to go.
