Wales Women opened their Pinatar Cup games with a 1-0 win over the Philippines after Kayleigh Green’s first-half penalty.

Angharad James was brought down by Jessika Cowart in the box early on but when Dominique Randle fouled Rhiannon Roberts in the area on the stroke of half time, Green fired home from the spot.

Also in the first half, Rachel Rowe saw her close range effort pushed away by Philippines goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel.

Safia Middleton-Patel made her first senior start and after the restart kept out Katrina Guillou’s effort at goal.

Ceri Holland had a strike tipped round the post by McDaniel, and from Sophie Ingle’s cutback Rowe’s shot was deflected narrowly wide.

Hannah Cain came on and twice nearly doubled the lead but one goal was enough for Wales, who next face Iceland  on Saturday.

The match at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia kicks-off at 7.30pm UK time and is live on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.
