Manchester City beat Barcelona 2-1 but bowed out of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals 4-2 on aggregate.

Manchester City got a crucial goal back before too much of the second leg had gone by, Sam Mewis heading down a corner and Janine Beckie getting the last touch for a 2 Barca0th-mnute lead.

Ellie Roebuck parried a Caroline Graham Hansen effort but only too Asisat Oshoala, who was denied by a Lucy Bronze block on the goal-line.

When Roebuck then thwarted the Nigerian a second time, Bronze was again on hand to make another goal-saving clearance.

Barcelona did get an away goal around the hour mark, Graham Hansen cutting the ball back for Oshoala to score.

City responded by winning a penalty for a foul on Ellen White and Sam Mewis converted from the spot, however it was Barca that went through to meet Lyon or PSG in the semi-finals.
