With qualifying for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup underway across Europe and Asia, there have been some re-entries, new entries and movement in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking.
Although Germany had previously knocked USA off the top spot for the first time since March 2015, the Americans are back on top after four consecutive wins against Russia (twice), Sweden and Norway.
Elsewhere in the top ten, Canada retook fourth place from England thanks to a friendly win over Sweden, who dropped three places to ninth – their lowest ever ranking.
Eight teams re-entered the ranking, with Tajikistan (108th) and Kosovo (109th) entering the table for the first time. Jamaica, St Lucia and Malawi all dropped out due to inactivity, however the total number of teams rose by 7 to 122.
Belgium have achieved their best-ever ranking (22nd, up one place) in part due to a 5-0 thrashing of Scotland (still 21st) in a EURO 2017 warm-up game, Record highs too for Chile (40th, up 1 place) after a 12-0 demolition of Peru, Jordan (50th, up 2 places), Syria (114th, up 1 place) and Iraq (117th, up 1 place).
Republic of Ireland slipped one spot to 33rd, Wales remained 35th and Northern Ireland dropped five to 60th.
