Top two win in Barclays Women’s Championship title race

Barclays Women’s Championship leaders Bristol City beat Lewes, London City Lionesses were one of four 1-0 winners.

Sunderland 0-1 Southampton
Crystal Palace 1-0 Durham
Birmingham City 0-1 London City Lionesses
Coventry United 3-1 Blackburn Rovers
Sheffield United 1-0 Charlton Athletic
Bristol City 2-0 Lewes

Bristol City defeated Lewes with two goals after the interval, Emily Syme headed home the first from Ffion Morgan’s delivery. Abi Harrison lobbed the keeper from 25 yards to seal the points late on.

London City Lionesses went ahead at Birmingham City right at the start of the second half, Karin Muya firing home  after a strong run.

Southampton got the only goal at Sunderland, Katie Wilkinson finding the net with a dozen minutes to go. The result put them four points clear in third.

Crystal Palace edged Durham with a 61st-minute goal, Annabel Blanchard heading home an Anna Filbey corner.

Sheffield United gained the advantage against Charlton Athletic approaching the interval, Georgia Walters finding the net after Sophie Barker led the break. The only goal kept the Blades five points off the bottom.

Coventry United were three up in only 17 minutes against Blackburn, Ebony Wiseman’s opener added to by Issy Goodwin’s brace. Jade Richards replied before half-time for Rovers but that’s how it stayed for United’s second win of the campaign.
