SWFL: 2019 season underway

Match day one in the Scottish Women’s Football League ended with Cove Rangers and Glasgow City Development as the 1st Division regional leaders.

SWFL 1 North – Cove open with eight-goal haul

Cove Rangers are the first leaders after an 8-0 result over Raith Rovers, while there were 5-1 victories for East Fife at Deveronvale, plus Aberdeen and Kelty Hearts against Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Stonehaven respectively. A goal-fest at Montrose saw Dunfermline Athletic take the points 7-4 with Brodie Rigby-Wilson scoring four times, while Buchan were 2-0 winners at Westdyke.

SWFL 1 South – Glasgow City Devs hit double-figures

Glasgow City Development ran out 10-0 winners at FC Kilmarnock U-23s, Renfrew hit hosts Hamilton Academical U-23s 6-2, Celtic Academy came away from Boroughmuir Thistle 4-1 victors, as did Rangers Development at Ayr United. Queens Park put three goals past Blackburn United,  Hibernian U-23s edged Spartans Development by a single goal.

SWFL2 South East / Central – Caley cut down Borders

Edinburgh Caledonia are the first side in pole position having bagged eight goals at Borders, Murieston United beat Blackburn United Development 7-2 away. Airdrie got all three goals in the match with Stirling University Development and Stenhousemuir won by the odd goal in three at Lothian.

2 West / South West – Stewarton sting Thistle

Stewarton United stuck away eleven goals at East Kilbride Thistle, Rutherglen ran out 9-1 victors at Annan Athletic. There were more moderate scores as Mid Annandale clinched a 4-1 win at Clark Drive, Morton netted two unanswered goals at Kilwinning and Stranraer got the solitary goal against Gleniffer Thistle.

2 West / Central – Clyde crush Craigandro

There were big wins for two teams, as Clyde routed Renton Craigandro 16-0 and Glasgow Girls U-23s got fourteen away at West Park United. United Glasgow took the game 2-1 at St Mirren, while Motherwell Development drew 2-2 with BSC Glasgow and Bishopton finished 1-1 in playing Pollok United.

2 North/East – Eight-goal East Fife lead

East Fife Development defeated Granite City 8-0, Dryburgh Athletic also struck eight times against Dunfermline Athletic U-21s, who replied once. Buchan Youth won 5-0 over Westdyke Thistle and Jeanfield Swifts sent Forfar Farmington home beaten 2-1.
