Sunderland won 2-0 away to Blackburn Rovers to go top of the Barclays Women’s Championship ahead of Sunday’s fixtures.

The Black Cats scored two second-half goals at seventh-placed Rovers on Saturday, to knock Charlton Athletic off the top of the table.

Katie Kitching curled a 47th-minute free-kick into the bottom far corner, to give the visitors the lead.

Amy Goddard had a goal ruled out for offside but Sunderland did double the lead on 63 minutes, when Emily Scarr charged down goalkeeper Alex Brooks’ clearance and into the net.
