SRUSA’s Harrogate Showcase

Sunday 22nd January saw SRUSA Women’s Soccer hold a trial match vs Harrogate Town AFC Ladies at the CNG Stadium in Harrogate.

The trial game gave the opportunity for the SRUSA players to showcase their talents and put their skills to the test against a high-flying Harrogate Town Ladies team who have an 100% record in league action this season.

The format of the day started with registration of the players and a chat with players and parents about the student athlete route. A short technical session and warm up took place before the teams played three 30 minute thirds to give each of the 16 girls on trial an opportunity showcase themselves and their talent. Along with players that were there on trial, the game also saw several signed players involved to gain valuable footage to help enhance personal profiles which are used to market players to colleges as the whole event was filmed by SR Analysis.

Before, the game took place, a minute’s silence was held for the former England Women’s Coach Martin Reagan. Martin is a person Head of Women’s Soccer Jon Maloney held close to his heart as he was coached by Martin at a young age along with playing a crucial part of the development of some great players for the England Women’s National team.

All three of thirds were played with great tempo and were very well contested by either team throughout on a fast-flowing pitch and finished 1-1, which gives huge credit to the ladies representing SRUSA. Many of the SRUSA players were coming together for the first time and were against a team which has won all 11 of their league matches with an impressive goal difference in their respective league. The SRUSA team were clearly able to show their talent with some fantastic play and skills throughout the day, showing maturity way ahead of their years.

After the match, the players and parents took the opportunity to speak to the coaches and staff in more detail and get a real insight into what they can expect when applying for college and how the process of becoming a student athlete works. We hope that players and parents gained a better understanding of Sports Recruiting USA and how we help players get the opportunity of a lifetime to play in the USA.

A huge thank you to the coaches and players who took part in the trial day and to Harrogate Town Ladies in giving the SRUSA team a great match.
