Spartans into SWPL Sky Sports Cup quarter-finals on penalties

The Scottish Women’s Premier League Sky Sports Cup 2nd Round featured an Edinburgh derby win for Spartans over Hearts.

Queen’s Park 0-5 Rangers
Glasgow City 5-0 Aberdeen

Hamilton Academical 0-8 Hibernian

Spartans pipped Edinburgh rivals Hearts on penalties, after Rachel Harrison saved Katie Rood’s attempt. Alana Marshall had scored direct from a corner for the visitors, substitute Rebecca McAllister levelled for Hearts.

Celtic went through with two goals in the opening half-hour against Partick Thistle by Lucy Ashworth-Clifford and Jacynta Galabadaarachchi.

Priscila Chinchilla gave Glasgow City an interval lead over Aberdeen and then won a penalty which Lauren Davidson converted. Emily Whelan and Meikayla Moore added one each, Davidson with her second in-between.

Rangers’ Kirsty Howat hit a hat-trick in the 5-0 defeat of Queen’s Park, Jodi McLeary and Kirsty Maclean also finding the net.

Crystal Thomas’s first-half treble set Hibs on the road to an 8-0 thrashing of Hamilton, Krystyna Freda contributing a double, Eilidh Adams, Shannon McGregor and Rosie Livingstone one apiece.

Motherwell’s Kaela McDonald-Nguah and Gill Inglis both scored from distance against Dundee United, whose  Tammy Harkin pulled one back.

Glasgow Women came from behind to beat Stirling University, despite a late dismissal. Ann Taylor’s opener was  responded to by Louisa Boyes and Hannah Cunningham before the red card.

Kilmarnock saw off Gartcairn with a Kirsty O’Brien header and Alex Middleton penalty.

The draw for the Quarter-Finals will take place on Tuesday at 3pm live on the SWPL’s Youtube channel.
