McCoy’s Rovers Return

Rovers report that the former England U-19 international, who becomes manager Gemma Donnelly’s first summer signing, is pleased to have joined a club where she knows there is a great team spirit and an ambition to win trophies.

The 26-year-old said: “I’ve previously had a great experience with Rovers, I know Gemma quite well, as well as some of the players, and I know the club has a great team spirit on and off the field.

“I played against Rovers for Stoke last season and they were one of the top teams in the division. They also set high targets, which we want to achieve.”

McCoy left Rovers in 2011 to join Rochdale, before eventually signing for Stoke at the beginning of the 2015-2016 season. She believes that her development will allow her to help the club fulfil its ambition of joining the Women’s Super League.

“There are a lot of young players and a couple of experienced ones, and hopefully I can provide my experience on top of that,” she added. “As I’ve got older, I have learned to play to my strengths – I’m tall, loud, I want to be a presence on the pitch and score goals.

“I’m at the age now that this is a very good opportunity for me to get into the Super League with a great club. I will be giving my all in order to help Rovers achieve that.”

Rovers manager Donnelly was delighted to bring McCoy back on board.

“When I was made aware of Faye’s interest to return to Rovers I jumped at the chance,” she said. “She is a talented and experienced player and can only add more quality to our team.

“This is a great signing for the club and will be a fantastic boost in our ambitions to win the league.”
