A rampant Manchester United beat Reading in the Barclays Women’s Super League watched by a record crowd for Leigh Sports Village of 7,217.
Maya le Tissier scored four minutes into her league debut for United, with a looping volley from Katie Zelem’s corner dropping over keeper Grace Moloney.
Reading appeals for handball in the home box were waved away and it was soon 2-0 as a penalty was given against Moloney as she tried to beat Alessia Russo to the ball, Zelem making no mistake from the spot in her 100th appearance.
The Royals then lost Deanne Rose to injury, before Le Tissier took advantage of a free header from another Zelem corner to net her second of the game.
Mary Earps saved with her legs at the near post from a corner, Russo later heading in the hosts’ fourth from Ona Batlle’s cross.
Reading resisted a still dominant United after the break for a goalless second half.
