Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 to go above them and into third place in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Frida Maanum had fired just wide for the Gunners, before Chloe Kelly’s cross provided a tap in for Lauren Hemp with barely three minutes played.

Manuela Zinsberger came to the rescue when Lotte Wubben-Moy gifted Khadija Shaw a chance and also turned a Filippa Angeldahl effort round the post.

City did double their lead before the break, Shaw winning possession and passing for Kelly to finish.

Stina Blackstenius hit the post for Arsenal early in the second half but they were back in it by the hour mark, Rafaelle heading home via the upright following Maanum’s free kick.

City’s Yui Hasegawa hit the bar from 20 yards, while in the dying minutes Alex Greenwood prevented Rio Queiroz from potentially getting a goal back.
