The opening day at the La Manga U-19 Tournament brought defeat for England, a draw for Scotland and an injury-time winner for the Netherlands.

England went down to an 88th-minute goal against Spain, despite cancelling out the hosts’ opener on half time.

Rosa Otermin scored on 34 minutes when beating Hannah Hampton but Aimee Palmer replied to send the Young Lionesses in on level terms. However, Olga Carmona popped up with a second goal for the Spaniards in the dying minutes.

Scotland finished goalless with Switzerland but missed a chance to take all three points with a 50th-minute penalty.

The Netherlands hit a 93rd-minute Chasity Grant winner in the 2-1 result over China. The Dutch were ahead in the opening minutes through Kirsten van de Westeringh, the equaliser coming just after the half-hour mark.

The second round of games on Saturday sees England face China, Scotland tackle the Dutch and Spain play the Swiss.
