Portsmouth pipped Southampton on penalties to lift the Hampshire FA Women’s County Cup at Havant & Waterlooville FC.

Rachel Panting had glanced a header wide before Jade Bradley curled an 11th-minute free kick inside the post.

Ella Pusey got on the end of a cross but her effort was deflected wide of the Pompey goal, while at the other end, Jade Widdows went through one-on-one with the keeper but failed to finish.

Southampton equalised before the hour mark, Rachel Panting firing cross the keeper inside the far post.

Pompey’s Shannon Albuery and Saints’ Pusey had efforts saved in quick succession, with a last-minute chance for Southampton seeing Phoebe William’s shot well saved.

Going straight to a shoot-out, the first three were all converted, giving Portsmouth the advantage before the following three were all missed, with Hannah Haughton saving twice.

Each side then netted one and missed another, giving Pompey a 3-2 win for a twelfth successive Hampshire Cup success.
