Gotland Beat Isle Of Man To Gold

Gotland Grab Gold

It was heartbreak for the Manx team as they led the hosts into the latter stages of Friday’s final, Jade Burden having opened the scoring before the hour mark.

Not only did Hilda Nygren level on 81 minutes but Ellen Olofsson then grabbed the winner 4 minutes from the end.

It was the second successive tournament that Gotland had beaten the Isle of Man in a medals match, winning 2-0 in Jersey two years ago.

Jersey Bag Bronze

Reigning champions Jersey were 3-1 winners in the bronze medal match against the Isle of Wight.

Rose Corbett and Eve Watson scored as Jersey went in 2-1 up at the interval, with Gemma Woodford pulling one back from a penalty.

The last goal game just 3 minutes after the restart, as Kelly Hughes headed in from a corner.

No Go 2019?

The 2019 Nat West Island Games will be held in Gibraltar but it appears football will not feature due to the lack of venues!

However, with news that Gibraltar’s sports facilities will be greatly redeveloped throughout 2018, there is apparently a possibility of some sports returning.
