Friday’s EURO 2017 Qualifying Round-Up

GROUP 1: FYR Macedonia 0-9 Slovenia, Scotland 0-4 Iceland
GROUP 2: Finland 4-1 Republic of Ireland, Montenegro 0-3 Portugal
GROUP 3: France 1-0 Greece
GROUP 6: Northern Ireland 4-0 Georgia
GROUP 7: Estonia 0-5 Belgium

Iceland replaced Scotland at the top of Group 1 with a 4-0 win in Falkirk that maintained their perfect form. Halberra Gísladóttir’s early goal was added to with three goals in seven minutes after the hour mark by Harpa Thorsteinsdóttir, Gunnhildur Jónsdóttir and Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir. Kim Little then missed a stoppage-time penalty.

Winless FYR Macedonia crashed 9-0 at home to Slovenia. There were braces by Kaja Erzen, Lara Prasnikar, Tjasa Tibaut and Barbara Kralj, plus one from Mateja Zver.

Finland are the only side showing any sort of challenge to Spain in Group 2 after their 4-1 win over the Republic of Ireland. Emmi Alanen, Jenny-Julia Danielsson and Natalia Kuikka built a 3-0 lead before Steph Roche came off the bench to quickly reply, only for Linda Sällström to complete the scoring 3 minutes from time.

Portugal doubled their points tally with a 3-0 victory in Montenegro. While Edite Fernandes claimed a hat-trick, the hosts did not manage a single shot at goal.

France made it seven straight wins in Group 3 but had to settle for a single-goal against Greece, Eugénie Le Sommer scoring on 36 minutes.

Northern Ireland beat Georgia 4-0 in the Group 6 basement battle in which Simone Magill gave them the lead in the opening seconds. Marissa Callaghan struck twice before the interval and Rachel Furness was on target in added time.

Belgium moved four points clear of England from two games more in Group 7, with a 5-0 result in Estonia. Inna Zlidnis put through her own net and Aline Zeler got the second before the break, with Elka Van Gorp and a Janice Cayman brace following in a ten-minute second-half spell.
