Fleetwood Town Wrens win at second-placed Darwen

Fleetwood Town Wrens went level on points with second-placed Darwen in the North West League Premier Division when beating them 2-1 away in midweek.

Darwen pulled a goal back with ten minutes to go and although they were unable to avoid defeat, the effort kept them above Fleetwood on goals scored.

Blackburn CSC let a 2-0 interval lead over Blackpool slip before grabbing the fifth and decisive goal of the game. Jayde Clegg and Hayley Wilford put the hosts two up but the Seasiders wiped out the advantage within six minutes of the restart, only for Katie Matthews to win it from the spot.

West Didsbury & Chorlton’s goalless draw with Bury was watched by 120 fans, Cheadle Town Stingers’ Rachael Dunlop got the decider in a 2-1 victory at Salford City Lionesses.

Preston and Mancunian Unity made it three wins from three in Division 1 North, North End netting three second-half goals to see off Fleetwood Town Wrens Reserves 5-2 and Unity beating Bolton Wanderers 6-4.

Haslingden’s got off the mark in style with seven goals against Radcliffe, Workington beat Carlisle United 2-0 in front of a crowd of 120, Beatrix Barber and Olivia Bennett on target for the Reds.

Morecambe’s Erin Menzies broke the deadlock at Penwortham Town on 71 minutes, with Yasmine Swarbrick extending the lead with a brace.

Division 1 South is led by Runcorn Linnets on goal-difference from FC St. Helens, with each recording third straight wins. Runcorn were 5-1 winners over Mossley Hill aided by Mollie Bennett’s hat-trick, St. Helens beat Hindley with an Ashley Beard double.
