Chester le Street Town not only moved out of the FA WPL Northern Division 1 relegation zone on Tuesday evening but victory over Morecambe saw them climb three places to eighth in the table.
The Cestrians defeated the fourth-placed side for the second time in three days, backing up Sunday’s 3-2 away win with a 2-1 home result.
Nichole Goundry-Havery had them ahead after just 3 minutes and Kacie Elson doubled the advantage inside the first half-hour.
The Shrimpers pulled a goal back after the break but their 220-mile midweek trip proved otherwise fruitless.
The result means that Barnsley slip into the bottom two on goal-difference from Newcastle United and Chorley, both of whom have games in hand on them, while Chester le Street are now level on points with seventh-placed Leeds United.
There’s more Premier League action tonight, as Stevenage host near neighbours Luton Town at Colney Heath FC in South East Division 1, kick off 7.45pm.
