Charlton Athletic’s new boss Karen Hills was denied an FA Women’s Championship win by a late own-goal against Crystal Palace.

Charlton’s Ella Rutherford saw her header deflected over the bar, before the visitors took an 18th-minute lead with a Lois Heuchan header.

Rutherford was again out of luck when her long-range strike came back off the crossbar, while Kate Natkiel and Annabel Johnson missed chances to equalise.

Chloe Morgan kept Palace in the game when keeping out a Jess King shot in the dying minutes, then deep into added time Bianca Baptiste’s cross went in off the unfortunate Shauna Vassell to rescue a point for the hosts.

The 1-1 draw moved the Addicks four points clear of last place and edged the Eagles into seventh spot on goal-difference.
