Both England and Republic of Ireland have qualified for this summer’s UEFA Women’s U-19 European Championship in Lithuania, with a game to spare.

England’s second win from two games came 1-0 against qualifying group hosts Portugal, while there were two red cards as Ireland also got the only goal of the game against Austria.

Michelle Agyemang made the breakthrough for England almost on half time, firing home the rebound after Catarina Potra parried Ashanti Akpan’s effort from a corner.

England finish their group fixtures against Italy on Tuesday 9 April, at Real Sport Club in Queluz, with a 3pm kick-off.

Austria lost Selina Albrecht to a second yellow card before the break and five minutes after the restart, Joy Ralph put Ireland ahead assisted by Lia O’Leary. Freya Healy came off the bench for the last 20 minutes but was dismissed late on for her second caution.

The Netherlands and hosts Lithuania are also in the finals which run from 14-27 July, with the remaining four finalists to be determined after Tuesday’s matches.

Scotland beat Cyprus 2-0 in Group B2, Tiree Burchill and Mia McAuley netting in a six-minute spell during the first half. Scotland lead group hosts Albania on goal-difference, whom they face in a decider for promotion to League A.

Wales also have a similar clash with North Macedonia but they are behind the Group B1 leaders on goal-difference, despite a 3-0 win over Moldova. An Olivia Francis penalty and Lauren Davies goal were seconds apart in the last quarter of the game, Chloe McMahon adding a third in stoppage time.

Northern Ireland will have to beat Estonia to win Group B5, after being held to a 0-0 draw by Kazakhstan.
